Churchville Gymnasts Have Winning Performances at East Coast Classic Meet

ACPR gymnastics individuals and teams had great performances at the annual East Coast Classic Gymnastic competition on Feb 8,9 and 10^th in Landover, MD. The ACPR level’s 4 and 5 teams each won the team gold. The East Coast Classic Meet (ECC) is one of the largest gymnastics competitions held in Maryland each year with many Maryland and out of state teams competing. Sixty-five ACPR gymnasts traveled to Landover, MD to compete in this excellent three-day competition.

ACPR’s Level 4 team continued its great string of wins, securing the team gold with a combined team score of 112.975, besting the next placed (West Virginia) team by more than a point. There were many great individual performances with three ACPR level 4 girls winning first place all around honors. The results are listed below.

At level 4, ACPR had 27 girls competing in two different sessions.

In the 8-year old division, Hannah Wenzel had a great meet. In her session, Hannah placed 1^st on vault with a 9.2, 5^th on bars with an 8.5, 4^th on beam with an 8.775 and 1^st on floor exercise with a 9.2 performance. Hannah finished first in the all around with a 35.675 total score. Caitlin McLaughlin had a good meet finishing 4^th on vault with an 8.9, 5^th on beam with an 8.45, 9^th on floor with an 8.8 and 8^th in the all around with a 33.8 effort. Courtney Bonsiero finished 10^th on vault with an 8.6 and had a 32.75 all around effort. Kendall Andrews finished 8^th on floor with an 8.85 performance. In the 81/2 year old age, Jennifer Liszewski finished 4^th on vault with a 9.1, second on bars with an 8.65 5^th on floor with an 8.65 and 7^th in the all around with a 33.5 effort.

In the 9-year-old age, Maddy Alascio had a good meet winning gold on vault with a 9.3, gold on bars with a 8.9 effort, 2^nd on floor exercise with a 9.2 and 5^th on beam with an 8.7. Maddy won the silver in the all around with a 36.1 total score. In the same age group, Kendall Archer was 6^th on bars with an 8.225 and 10^th in the all around with a 32.6 score. Kaylie Linman earned 7^th place on bars with an 8.1 and 8^th place on floor with an 8.45 performance.

In the 10 and up age, Emily Goheen had a good meet. Emily placed 9^th on bars with an 8.45, 5^th on beam with a 9.05 and 7^th on floor with a 9.075 performance. Emily finished 7^th overall with a 35.375 all around score. Rebecca Reinhardt finished 3^rd on bars with a 9.0 effort and 10^th on beam with an 8.8. Rebecca finished 10^th all around with a score of 34.7.

In another competitive session, Emily Pascoe, an 8-year-old, had a great meet, finishing 1^st on vault with a 9.25, 2^nd on bars with a 9.05, 4^th on beam with an 8.65 and tied for 2^nd on floor with a 9.425 effort. Emily finished second overall with a score of 36.375. Also 8-years-old, Kylie Ryan finished 9^th on vault with an 8.85, 3^rd on bars with a 9.0, tied for 4^th on beam with an 8.65 and on floor with a 9.15. Kylie was 4^th all around with a 35.65.

In the 81/2 year-old age, ACPR had 6 girls competing with three of the girls being the top all around winners. Bethany Wheeler had a great competition, winning three first place awards. Bethany finished 1^st on beam with a 9.325 performance, on floor with an excellent 9.625 and in the all around with a 37.425 total score. She also finished 3^rd on vault with a 9.425 and 2^nd on bars with a 9.05 performance. Abigail Brosh also had a great meet, finishing just behind Bethany in second place with an all around of 37.025. Abagail was 2^nd on vault with a 9.525, 3^rd on bars with an 8.925 2^nd on beam with a 9.275 and on floor with a 9.3. Brooke Doane had a good meet as well, taking first place on vault with an outstanding 9.525, 1^st on bars with a 9.125, 3^rd on beam with a 9.15 and 8^th on floor with an 8.9. Brooke finished 3^rd in the all around with a 36.775 total. Megan King had a good meet, taking second on floor with an outstanding 9.5 performance and finishing 7^th in the all around with a 35.5. Allison Backert finished 9^th on bars with an 8.6 and 6^th on floor with a 9.05 effort. Alison finished 10^th all around with a 34.4. Sydney Gillis finished tied for 10^th on bars with an 8.35 and on beam with an 8.7 effort. She had a 34.375 all around.

In the 9 year–old agegroup, six girls competed for ACPR. Erin Paradiso had a good meet finishing 7^th on vault with a 9.15 and 2^nd on beam with a 9.35. Erin also finished 6^th on floor with a 9.0 and 4^th in the all around with a 36.2 total. Jordyn Ray finished 2^nd on bars with a 9.2 and on floor with a 9.3 peformance. She also finished 5^th in the all around with a 36.1 total. Leah McNally finished 1^st on vault with an excellent 9.5 performance, 6^th on bars with an 8.875 and 7^th on floor with an 8.85. She was 7^th in the all around with a 35.875 total. Samantha Zurvalec was 3^rd on vault with a 9.4 effort, 5^th on bars with an 8.975 and finished 10^th in the all around with a 35.325. Kaitlyn Wancowicz finished 6^th on beam with a 9.15 and 9^th on bars with a 8.775. She had a 35.5 all around effort. Alysha Berres finished with a 33.5 all around effort.

In the 10 year old and up age, ACPR had three girls compete. Gabrielle Ritz had a great meet, finishing first in the all around with a 36.8 total. She also finished first on bars with a 9.4 and tied for first on vault with a 9.45 effort. Gabrielle was 2^nd on floor with a 9.15 and 3^rd on beam with an 8.8. April Scott finished just behind Gabrielle in the all around with a 36.575. April was first on beam with a 9.425, second on floor with a 9.15 and 2^nd on bars with a 9.3., and 8^th on vault with an 8.7. Julia Becker finished 5^th in the all around with a 35.15. Julia was 5^th on vault with a 9.05, on bars with an 8.55, and 6^th on floor with an 8.65. Julia also tied for 5^th on floor with an 8.9.

In the level 5 competition, ACPR won the team competition with an outstanding score of 112.???. Several girls had great meets as well winning the All around gold medals in their age groups.

In the 8-year-old age, level 5 Christina Riggins continued her great run of gold medal all around performances. Christina finished 1^st on vault with a 9.4, on bars with a 9.5 and on beam with an excellent 9.65 performance. She finished second on floor with a 9.2 and won the first place all around medal with a combined score of 37.75. Kaitlyn Surasky had a good meet, finishing 4^th on vault with an 8.5 and on bars with an 8.6. She finished 8^th on floor with an 8.1 and 9^th on beam with an 8.15 effort. Kaitlyn was 5^th in the all around with a 33.35 performance.

In the 9-year-old age group, Maggie Palfi, another first year level 5, finished first on bars with an 8.75, 3^rd on beam with an 8.825 and tied for 4^th on floor with an 8.35 effort. Maggie finished 3^rd all around with a total of 33.625. Erin McClosky finished 6^th on vault with an 8.25, 7^th on beam with an 8.3, and 7^th in the all around with a 32.35. McKenzi Cox had a good performance, finishing first on vault with an 8.7, 6^th on floor with an 8.325 and 6^th in the all around with a 32.625. Taylor Layman finished 2^nd on floor exercise. with an 8.55 and 5^th on beam with an 8.7.

In the 11 year-old age, ACPR girls won 4 out of the top 6 all around awards, finishing 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd on the stands. Taylor Robertshaw continued her great season by having another excellent meet, finishing 1^st on all events and in the all around with an outstanding 37.325 total. Taylor was 1^st on vault with a 9.15, on bars with a 9.275, on beam with an excellent 9.4 and on floor with an exceptional 9.5 performance. Bethany Riley also had another good meet, finishing second on vault with a 9.0, and 4^th on bars with a 9.0,on beam with an 8.7, and on floor with an 8.9 performance. Bethany finished second in the all around with a 35.6 total score. Hannah Malin finished 2^nd on floor with a 9.15, 4^th on vault with an 8.9 and 3^rd in the all around with a 35.00 score. Bailey Lippa, another first year level 5, finished 3^rd on floor with a 9.0, tied for 5^th on beam with an 8.5 and finished 5^th all around with a 34.65. Madison Hilber finished 5^th on vault with an 8.85 and on floor with an 8.75 performance. Madison was 7^th on bars with an 8.65 set and finished 9^th overall with 33.7. Lindsey Jackson was 6^th on floor with an 8.6 and 8^th on beam with an 8.45 performance.

In the 12+ age group, Morgan Peschek won the gold on beam with a 9.1 performance, and the silver on floor with an 8.825. Morgan finished 4^th overall with a 34.225 total score. Sydney Stone finished 7^th on bars with a 7.95 and 8^th in the all around with a 32.05. Bianca Montgomery, new to competition this season, finished 6^th on vault with an 8.45 and 6^th on beam with a 7.75.

In the level 6, 7-9 year-old competition, Alyssa Caristia finished 6^th on beam with an 8.9 performance and tied for 8^th on bars with a 7.9. Alyssa finished 9^th overall with a 33.85 total score. Jordan Salamone finished tied for 3^rd on floor with a 9.125 and for 5^th on vault with an 8.8. Jordan finished 10^th all around with a 33.475.

In the 10 year old age, Tessa Henry had a nice meet, finishing 3^rd on vault with a 9.0, 2^nd on beam with an outstanding 9.5 performance, and 5^th on floor with an 8.8. Tessa was 5^th overall with a 35.1 total. Megan Surasky finished 5^th on vault with an 8.8.

Abby Langenfelder finished 3^rd on vault in the 12 year old division with a 9.15 and first on floor with a 9.2 performance. Abby was 6^th all around with a 33.65. Kathy Kammerer finished 1^st on vault with a 9.25 and tied for 7^th place on beam with an 8.675 effort.

In the 13+ age at level 6, Caitlin Stevens finished 2^nd on beam with a 9.05 and tied for 3^rd on floor with an 8.7. Caitlin was 7^th overall with a 32.5 total. Ashley Webb did not compete due to illness.

At the Optional levels (level 7-10) 14 ACPR gymnasts competed. At level 7, in the 7-10 age, Erika Slotnick had another great performance. Erika finished 4^th on floor with a 9.2, 3^rd on bars with a 9.225 5^th on vault with a 9.25 and 6^th on beam with an 8.95. Erika was 4^th in the all around with a combined score of 36.625. At age 11, Dashia Murphy had a good meet. Dashia won vault with an outstanding 9.5 front-handspring, was 6^th on beam with an 8.5 and on floor with a 8.425. She was also 7^th on bars with an 8.0 and 6^th in the all around with a 34.425 total score.

In the 13+ age, Anita Reilly had another good meet as well, finishing second in the all around with an outstanding 36.125 total. Anita also was 1^st beam with a 9.4, 3^rd on floor with a 9.0 3^rd on bars with an 8.475 and 4^th on vault with a 9.3. In the same age group, Michelle Earle finished 3^rd on beam with an 8.85, 6^th on floor with an 8.80 and 8^th in the all around with a 33.10. Brianna Haffey was 6^th on beam with an 8.3, 9^th on vault with an 8.5, 8^th on floor also with an 8.5. Candis Cregar was 8^th on vault with an 8.7 and 7^th on floor with an 8.65 performance. Haleigh Schilling finished 5^th on floor with an 8.825 and 9^th on bars with a 7.45. Tayler Appleby finished 4^th on beam with an 8.6 and 9^th on floor with a 7.6.

In the level 8 competition, four girls competed for ACPR. In the 8-11 age, Gabrielle Jordan had another good meet, finishing 2^nd in the all around with a 35.475 total score. Gabby won beam with a 9.2, was 3^rd on vault with her tuck Yurchenko scoring an 8.55 and 3^rd on floor with a 9.05 effort. She was 4^th on bars with an 8.675.

In the 14+ age, Carrie Spangler continued her good first year level 8 season, finishing 5^th in the all around with a 34.40 total. Carrie tied for 2^nd on beam with an 8.85 and was 5^th on bars with an 8.4 effort. Carrie also Tied for 7^th place on floor with an 8.85. Shannon Famini, finished 10^th on bars with an 8.1 effort. Chelsea Hicks finished 9^th on beam with an 8.4 and tied for 9^th on vault with an 8.3 effort.

At level 9, 14 year-old Brooke Schulz finished 3^rd on bars with an 8.15 and on vault with her piked Tsukahara scoring an 8.9. Brooke also finished 6^th on floor with an 8.725 and 4^th all around with a 33.375 total.

In the level 10 competition, 14 year-old Emily Heller had an excellent meet. Emily scored a 9.25 on vault performing an excellent “Layout” Yurchenko, and finished 2^nd on bars with an 8.825. Emily also finished 4^th on beam with an excellent 9.3 and on floor with with an exceptional 9.375 performance. Her event performances earned her the silver medal in the all around with a 36.75 total score. Emily’s all around score was the second highest for any level 10 in the East Coast Classic Meet. Because of her performance, Emily also qualified for event finals in all four events that were held the following night. Emily repeated a very good performance on the next evening at event finals, especially with an outstanding 9.4 floor exercise performance.

ACPR gymnastics will host the level 6 and 7 Maryland State Championships at the Churchville Recreation Center on April 26^th and 27^th, 2008.
